The Sand Zone is owned and operated by Kara and her husband Chad.
Kara, being a local Grande Prairie resident and parent herself, felt there was a need for somewhere families could bring kids to experience unstructured play in a safe environment. Due to the region’s short summers, long and cold winters and even more unpredictable spring and fall seasons, Kara sought out ideas that would be flexible enough to accommodate families through all seasons.
When the opportunity to repurpose the former PARDS facility came forward, she recognized its potential to become a year-round, children’s play area. Thus, The SandZone was born and it became a unique, indoor recreational facility where children go to play “outside” while staying inside, all year long.
The Indoor Beach Volleyball courts were created in 2021 to provide additional court space to a growing, but limited, sport in the City. The expansion into Beach Volleyball has been a fun, new adventure for The Sand Zone and offers expanded possibilities for events and activities.
